The scoreline doesn't tell the whole story though as United created numerous chances throughout the contest, but Heath's clinical finishing was the key difference between the two sides.

United began the game quickly and won a number of early corners, but they didn't come to anything that would trouble the home side.

Somewhat against the run of play, the home side took the lead in the 7th minute as Trevor McCreadie rose highest to head past Phil Hawkins.

United soon had a chance of their own as a lofted ball forward from Scott Taylor was met by Peter Cooper, but his glancing header edged wide of the upright.

Heath would go two up soon after as Sammy Townsend was dispossessed in his own half by former United man Scott Chamberlain, who played in McCreadie and the striker found the bottom corner of the goal.

In the build up to the goal, Ryan Paul suffered a gash to his head that would see his afternoon end with a trip to A&E, with new signing Matt Simpson his replacement.

Ten minutes before half time, it was 3-0 as McCreadie completed his hat-trick from six yards as any hope of United getting anything from the game appeared to have disappeared.

United kept going though as Max Howell, who looked a threatening presence throughout, saw his low effort turned around the post.

Another goal followed soon after half-time, with McCreadie heading home his and Heath's fourth of the afternoon.

Kane Penn became the second United player of the afternoon whose afternoon finished prematurely as he was taken off as a precaution following a whack to his lower back in the first half, with Tyler O'Callaghan his replacement.

The game continued to ebb and flow, before Heath scored a fifth as Joel Daly lifted the ball over Hawkins from 12 yards out.

To their credit, United never gave up and continued to press forward in search of a goal and got their reward 12 minutes from time as Howell crossed from the right for substitute Connor Townsend and the youngster scored his first senior goal in United colours from close range.

Townsend could have doubled his tally moments later as perseverance from Simpson on the right saw the ball rebound into the path of Townsend, but his left footed effort cleared the upright.

The introduction of Townsend brought a renewed energy to the United front line and he had another good opportunity after a diagonal ball from elder brother Sammy, but the younger Townsends' lobbed effort went the wrong side of the upright.

The final action of the game saw Howell cut in front the right touchline and force Heath 'keeper Josh Heyburn into a diving save but it would be an afternoon to forget in Mid-Sussex
