Eastbourne Ladies & Girls FC join United and will continue as Eastbourne United AFC

Eastbourne United AFC are proud to announce that from the 2019/20 season we will have our very first Women’s Football team.

From the 2019/20 season Eastbourne Ladies & Girls FC will be rebranded as they become Eastbourne United AFC playing in the South East Counties Women’s Football League, Premier Division.

Statement from the Chairman of Eastbourne United AFC, Billy Wood:
“As we continue towards our 5-year plan It feels great to announce that not only will we have a competitive Men’s team next season but a Women’s team and backroom staff who are highly ambitious. Within this club we are implementing a culture and it’s vital that we are all under one roof pulling in the same direction for success across the teams, this isn’t just a name association. I am delighted that Adam and Phil believe United is the right home for their players and I am excited for them to be wearing the Red & Blue of our 125-year anniversary next season.

The club will support the Women’s team’s ambition. I am not just the Chairman of our Men’s 1st team, I am the proud Chairman of this football club and success across the teams is on the agenda for the 19/20 season. I am looking forward to welcoming a new bunch of players to their home at The Oval and can’t wait till the first ball is kicked in the new season.”

Statement from Adam Wolecki, the Chairman of Eastbourne Ladies & Girls FC:
“For over 10 years Eastbourne Ladies & Girls FC has tried to inspire more females to play football and always made decisions that are in the best interest of our members, and as a club our players have been at the forefront of this process. This unique opportunity gives us a platform to reach more people but make it more accessible, not only financially by making costs minimal, but facility and support wise to progress women's football in the area. There are exciting times ahead and after being the final custodian of Eastbourne Ladies & Girls FC I feel 100% confident we are joining a family at Eastbourne United AFC, that will support both 1st teams equally and inspire the next generation of footballers, both boys and girls. I look forward to seeing both old and new supporters down The Oval next season.”

Statement from Phil Hawkins, the Manager of Eastbourne United AFC Women’s
“I personally feel this is an opportunity that we couldn’t turn down and we can now genuinely push to the next level. In my eyes this is the break that the ladies deserved after all the hard work they and the club have put in over the years.

Having played for United, I know what the club means to everyone and that has shown in how welcoming they have been this season with us ground sharing.

Eastbourne United AFC is a club moving with the times and heading into an exciting era and we are proud to be part of it and excited to be one club”

Both Adam and Phil will be staying on as part of the Women’s set up at Eastbourne United AFC.
The Women’s team will play all their home games at The Oval from 2019/20 season onwards.
