Hassle in Hassocks

Hassle in Hassocks

United Washed Away

It was a dismal return to league action at the weekend as an injury-ravaged United left the Beacon with nothing. With Penn and Cox suspended and five others injured, Ryan Cooper had to play in defence, and regular keeper Luke Colqhoun took up the Left Back position for the injured Dale Waring. Matt Dann debuted in goal having signed in midweek, but fellow new signing Harry Ducatel, returning for a second spell at United was unable to play as his transfer had not gone through in time. Both sides started breezily enough, with Hassocks having the upper hand in driving rain. When they went ahead before the break it was no less than they deserved, having already brought two fine saves out of Matt Dann. On the hour mark Jack Harris gave way at right back to Josh Ensell, but despite United playing some more fluent football, it was inevitable that Hassocks would double their lead, before Ryan Cooper had to limp off after a heavy challenge. Down to ten men with only one sub available, United struggled and eventually conceded a third.
Full time was somewhat welcome for United who had put in the effort but had nothing to show for it.
Next up is the formidable challenge of Horsham YMCA at the Oval on Saturday at 3pm.
