Pitch Works 2018

Pitch Works 2018

Steve Huxley6 Jun 2018 - 10:14

It's the growing season!

It's that time of year again when the players put their feet up, the management abandon the dugout, and the pitch gets it's first chance since August to heave a sigh of relief. This season has again been heavy, with First team, under21s, under 18s and Little Common FC all using the pitch.
From the sidelines it doesn't look too serious, but within a few metres of stepping on the turf, you can see that the damage is quite heavy, with patches of soil showing through everywhere. Following on from the good work last season, our partners at Agrifactor have taken it a step further this year - we have actually ploughed up the pitch and deep seeded across the entire surface. It's frightening to watch the pitch cut into a broken up, but even as the Giant tractors left, we could see a bit more uniformity to the pitch, and (hopefully) we will see more even grass coverage this season.
Now the usual problem is making sure we get enough water on it to make it all worthwhile.
Any volunteers who can pop down and move the Rain Train (we will show you!!) are always welcome, Steve Hux is co-ordinating, give him a ring on 07830 125011 if you can help for a few minutes or a few hours, it's all welcome and all vital.
Pictures of the works are in the "Pitch Works 2018 photo album on the site.
