United Slump To Home Defeat

2 months ago By Dean Allchin

United's recent poor league form continued with a 1-0 defeat at The Oval against Worthing United

The only goal of the game came as Deji Alabi capitalised on a mistake by debutant goalkeeper Ollie Jenkins to fire home from close range as United failed to score for the third home game out of the last four.

Jenkins was handed his debut as Phil Hawkins served a one game suspension after being sent off at Lancing the previous Saturday, ending a run of 70 consecutive starts in the United goal.
Joel Mbiya Kalambayi was also handed his first start after a couple of lively cameo appearances in previous weeks and it was Kalambayi who looked the most likely to open the scoring as his direct style looked to threaten the visiting defence.
Kalambayi saw a fierce effort saved by Matt Evans in the visitors goal, before Alabi found the net for the visitors.
There was a major talking point at the start of the second half when play was brought back for a foul on the halfway line after Kalambayi was past Evans and through on goal.
United looked to find that all important goal but it wasn't to be as they fell to a disappointing defeat
