We have been working tirelessly over the last few years to improve the club, both on and off the pitch as many would have noticed. Furthermore we now have the planning approval for the 3G at The Oval, and we can kick on and drive the club forward to try and get us to the next level, as well as help the community by allowing local youth teams, walking football and ladies football to use the facility during the week for training and for match days.
The future looks bright for the club, the players and the local community, as well as tidying up and creating a far better looking environment within and around this amazing and historic part of Princes Park.
Lots of people have asked me when the facility will be installed, so I felt it important for me on behalf of the club to explain what the plans are, moving forward.
Due to a long season last year and a longer than expected planning decision, we find ourselves already at the start of the new football season; therefore the league won’t be able to reverse our home fixtures at such short notice to allow the pitch to be installed immediately. The installation will now start after the last home game of this season. (April - May 2024).
Hopefully that clears up any rumours and explains what’s going on to the fans and followers of the club.
You may also be aware that we have formed a new football committee at the club, solely focused members with a very keen interest in driving the club forward, along with the investment consortium that are ready to get going at the end of the season regarding the 3G, so things are definitely looking bright for the future.
It’s all systems go again as the season starts next week. Work has started on the grass pitch and surrounding parts of the ground to make sure the current facility is available for use through the season.
We look forward to opening the turnstiles for our fans and visitors to the ground for what will be our last season on grass.
I hope that helps explain our next steps in our new journey. I will be at the club on match days as will the new committee members, so please come on down, chat with us, be part of the positive direction in which we are heading. We appreciate all your support as always.
Myself and everyone involved in the club look forward to seeing you all very soon.
Best wishes,
Matt Thompson
Club Chairman
