Baitup, who now has five goals from his three appearances against Newhaven this season, glanced a header into the far corner to maintain United’s promising start to the league season.
United captain Adam Davidson missed the fixture as a result of an injury sustained against Guildford City, with Dean Stevens taking over the captaincy. Dave Smart also missed out with concussion suffered in the same fixture, while Steve Dallaway was unavailable.
Zak Dove, Danny Andrews and Jamie Salvidge replaced the aforementioned trio, with Niall Cheshire of the Under 21 side making his first appearance in a matchday squad.
Newhaven went close early on, but Shaun Lee had the presence and peace of mind to clear a goal bound header off the line and out for a corner.
At the other end, Baitup saw an effort from 18 yards tipped over by Jake Buss. From the resulting corner, Lee headed the ball back across goal and Salvidge rose highest to head home and give United the lead.
The lead would last a little over fifteen minutes before a scuffed shot fell to at the feet of Callum Connor who wrong-footed Phil Hawkins and drew Newhaven level.
Ten minutes into the second half, the turnaround was complete when Ryan Walton’s in swinging corner was met by the unmarked Connor Sidwell as he left Hawkins with no chance from close range.
Buss was called into action again from the left foot of Baitup, as he tipped a shot onto the post that rolled agonisingly in front of the goal before going out for a corner.
Hawkins produced an impressive double save to deny Joe Dryer and then the rebound from Walton before United attacked at the other end and equalised.
A short corner was played into the box and the Newhaven defence was caught napping to allow Baitup to turn the ball in unmarked inside the six yard box for his fifth goal of the season.
There was still time left in the game to find a winner and Baitup duly obliged with seconds left on the clock to secure all three points
