United and Midhurst reach stalemate again!

United and Midhurst reach stalemate again!

Steve Huxley1 Apr - 07:15

It’s well known that in Raiders of the lost Ark, Indiana Jones does in fact have no material effect on the outcome at all…

…And so it was at a wind swept Oval Arena on Saturday, as United took on Midhurst an Easebourne. Both teams have been in great form recently, United having won five of their last six and being unbeaten at home since November. Midhurst are rebuilding after a poor start to the season; the two teams drew two all only last month at Midhurst.

But, just like Indiana, both teams put in huge efforts on Saturday with absolutely no reward whatsoever. United started the Livlier, Charlie Ball getting a corner in the first five minutes following a great save from the Midhurst keeper at the near post. Midhurst had two or three chances of their own and Seckha had to be on his best form to keep the scores level. It wasn’t until the half hour Mark that the deadlock looked seriously in trouble, the keeper bringing off an outstanding double save from Gary Ingram to keep it 0-0 at the break.

The second half started with United looking the more Likely to take the points, Ingram crossing for James Hull to volley straight from the restart, only for the keeper to save well. The second half hinged on an incident on 50 minutes, Ingram scoring from a free kick only for the Linesman to rule it off side. Howls of protest from the home support and bench ensued. On review of the video at full-time, it was clear that Ingram was a long way on side, but that is Football, unfortunately these kind of things can bring about adverse results, and too often do. If only we had VAR…….

United continued to press heavily, with Hull, Wilson and Ball all going close, Creese scooping over from point blank range - it was obviously not going to be United’s day.

So it was then, much like our hero, Indiana Jones, that United and Midhurst both left and exactly the same situation that they started with; United’s main play-off rivals, Peacehaven were well beaten at Guernsey, and it is Peacehaven that United take on next on Saturday. Come bank holiday Monday, United take on Seaford town at the Oval; it’s an 11 o’clock kickoff and it is bound to be a busy one!! Get there early and soak up the atmosphere for the penultimate time this season.
