Eastbourne United arrived at Shoreham with the Musselmen having been relegated the previous week, and United's run on the playoffs effectively ending at the same time. Anthony Storey returned to the sidelines after being absent the previous week, and United were largely unchanged on a baking hot day. The pitch had not been watered, and infall truth both sides really struggled to get any kind of grip on a parched pitch with little grass. A decent travelling contingent from Eastbourne helped to swell the gate, but despite the cajoling, it was an uneventful first half. Ball, Hull and Wilson all had chances, but were struggling with the conditions. At half time there may've been some swapping of footwear, and after the break it was a different story; in only the second minute Tyano Wilson jiggled down the right wing and pulled back for Charlie Ball to seal his leading scorer status. Shoreham looked even more like a team condemned, but to their credit showed fight throughout without ever really bothering Alieu Seckha. With 20 minutes remaining, Charlie Ball returned the favour for Tyano Wilson, who made it 2-0. United continued to dominate, Overy and Wilson enjoying some great runs down the wings, and in the dying minutes it was once again Charlie Ball who broke Shoreham's resolve to make it 3-0 and game definitely over. Not to be outdone, Wilson grabbed a second in injury time to make it a very workmanlike 4-0 to United.
This Saturday will be a much sterner test for the final day of the season as United take on Champions elect Haywards Heath. Heath have dominated all year, but over the last few games have slipped up, and are level pegging with Steyning Town for the automatic promotion spot. United will of course be looking for revenge for the 1-0 loss at Heath back in September, if not for that disputed penalty, they too would have been in the mix for the play offs! It's a TWO o'clock kickoff for all SCFL matches, as they all need to kickoff at the same time as Guernsey.
