United won in style at East Grinstead on Saturday - traffic delays meant that the bench was depleted, with only 3 of a possible 7 substitutes available, and an enforced change of kit meant that preparations were disrupted at East Grinstead.
Several youngsters took to the field, with familiar names from last season backing them up, but in the end it was a devastating performance from United. It would be easy to look at the score and think that Grinstead had players away and not taken it seriously; No. This was a strength team, and judging by the noises from the changing room at full time, they were certainly taking it seriously!
It took United just under 2 minutes to take the lead, and despite conceding on 9 minutes, you could see a team absolutely full of confidence and desire.
There is still an argument that East Grinstead were the stronger team. Very possibly, in fact. But United had a burning desire, and never stopped working, and that’s what has taken us through to the next round, and an away day at Sheppey United on August 16th.
