Welcome to the Silver Centenary

Welcome to the Silver Centenary

Steve Huxley4 Jan 2019 - 10:44

United's 125th Birthday starts here!

Okay, before the emails start flooding in, there's probably no such thing as a "Silver Centenary", but what do you call 125 years of a football club? Probably a miracle! As we celebrate the New Year, we also start our celebrations leading up to September 5th, when indeed Eastbourne United AFC (then Sussex Royal Engineers Volunteers [Eastbourne] FC) turn 125.

As always, there are two ways of looking at getting older - the ground needs constant maintenance (and thank you to our volunteers for that!!), the weight of our past can sometimes drag at us (I remember the 60's...) and a feeling of "we haven't gone anywhere" can prevail. On the other hand, 125 is the New 25!! with a new management team lead by Arron Hopkinson, an enthusiastic committee lead by New Chairman Billy Wood, and some good recent performances, there is every reason to believe that we can go forward in a positive and optimistic manner in to the second half of the season.

Off the pitch, our support has been magnificent, the players and the management are always grateful for the enthusiasm of our loyal supporters on a rainy Tuesday in February; surely the test of any true fan!

This year will see the re-launch of the Supporters club, and some 125th Anniversary merchandise that will only be available this year, including our replica shirts. we are working with Winning Look and Errea to reproduce the Original "Royal Engineers" kit from 1894 (Not the shorts, the players would go nuts!) and these should look great.

On our social media platforms, we will be celebrating with the hashtag #United125, which we hope will make us easier to find and gain us some traction in the wider football world ,as well as local media.
From the Players, from under 7's through to the first team, the respective management teams, and the committee, we thank you for being there for us, and wish you all a very happy, prosperous, and hopefully, successful, New Year.

Lets be #United125
