United Knocked Out of FA Cup

Dean Allchin30 Aug 2014 - 17:42

The FA Cup adventure is over for another year after Eastbourne United AFC suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Hastings United in the Preliminary Round

Ben Dartnall, Dan Pollard and Ashley Jarvis were the three changes to the side that defeated Hailsham Town 3-1 on Bank Holiday Monday, with Bailo Camara, Dave Smart and Dean Stevens the players to make way.

After a fairly even opening ten minutes, it was the Ryman South side who came cose to an opening goal but Cook hit his effort over the bar from the edge of the area.
Two minutes later, it would be the hosts who took the lead.
Jason Taylor capitalised on a mistake by former EUAFC defender Sean Ray as he pounced on Ray's misjudged header back to 'keeper Josh Pelling to steal in and curl the ball into the far corner.
Taylor turned provider on 24 minutes as his crossfield pass found the perfectly timed run of Lucas Mann, who showed great composure to slot the ball between Pelling's legs and double the lead.
The second goal appeared to kick Hastings into life as Ade Olorunda pulled a goal back less than three minutes later after turning Dan Pollard in the area and rifling a thunderous effort into the roof of the net past Russ Tanner.
Hastings had a golden opportunity to draw level as Olorunda broke down the left wing and teed up Frankie Sawyer, who sliced wide from less than 6 yards out.
The tie was level on 36 minutes as Sawyer scored at the second attempt, following a scramble in the area after his initial effort had been saved by Tanner.

Sawyer could have made it three at the start of the second half as he broke through following Taser Hassan's pass, but Tanner was equal to the effort and tipped his low shot around the post.
A superb save from Pelling denied Ashley Jarvis, after the midfielder was released by Pollard and chipped over a defender before volleying towards goal.
With just over 10 minutes remaining, a long throw from Sam Cruttwell found its way to Dave Cook who saw his effort from the edge of the area deflected through a crowd of bodies and past a stranded Tanner.
Jarvis was twice denied in the final few minutes by Pelling as United went in search of an equaliser that would have forced a replay at The Pilot Field, but it wasn't to be even though Hastings were reduced to ten men in the 90th minute when Tim Olorunda was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
