United Exit FA Vase at The Hands of Deal

Dean Allchin3 Oct 2015 - 20:41

Eastbourne United AFC have gone out of the FA Vase at the Second Qualifying Round after a 3-0 defeat against Deal Town

The scoreline was harsh on the young United side, with two goals coming in the 89th and 93rd minute.
There was a debut in goal for Louis Rogers, while Peter Featherstone and Liam Painter returned to the starting line-up in place of the absent James Bywater and Peter Cooper.
The opening twenty minutes were relatively even, with neither ‘keeper being fully tested. But on twenty one minutes a ball over the top of the defence found Deal’s Ryan Philpott, who rounded Rogers before cutting inside and opening the scoring for the 2000 FA Vase winners.
The United response was immediate as Liam Baitup pressurised the visiting defence, eventually winning the ball before squaring to Painter who screwed his effort wide.
Andy Miller tried his luck from 25 yards for Deal, but Rogers was equal to his effort as he tipped over for a corner.
The United cause suffered a major blow with less than ten minutes of the second half played when talismanic striker Baitup was shown a straight red card after tangling with a Deal defender who had attempted to shield the ball out of play.
If anything, Baitup’s dismissal spurred United forward with widemen Painter and Noir Gordon integral to United’s attacking intent.
Gordon was inches away from a drilled Pinter cross, before Painter saw an inswinging corner tipped onto the woodwork by Chris Waymark.
With time running out, Tobi Hutchinson made a change of formation as United looked to secure an all important goal but they were punished when Mitch Knight saw an effort deflect off substitute Alex Read and past a helpless Rogers.
To add insult to injury, Deal found time for a third of the afternoon when Rene Rivera opened his body to guide a left wing cross past Rogers as United were sent out of the FA Vase at the first attempt
