Hutchinson named two new signings in his first starting XI, with James Bywater returning to the club where he made 124 appearances previously and wide man Noir Gordon also handed a starting berth.
United were only the width of the crossbar from going behind after just four minutes, as Little Common defender Zac McInery rose highest but thumped his header against the bar following a free kick. United immediately countered, with the ball ending up at the feet of Liam Baitup, but his tame effort was gathered by Matt Cruttwell.
Neither goalkeeper was forced into a strenuous save of any real note during the majority of the opening 45 minutes but Zak Dove had to be in the right place at the right time to clear off the line after a Common header was goal bound.
There was a shout for a penalty turned down in the 41st minute as Peter Cooper turned sharply on the edge of the area before being fouled, with the match officials adjudging that the contact occurred outside of the box.
With the second half under 90 seconds old, United took the lead through a familiar face as Baitup hit a dipping effort past the outstretched arms of Cruttwell.
As the half went on, Little Common grew into the game and began to spend more time in the United half and were eventually rewarded on the stroke of full time as a long throw found its way to Dan Estherby, shot on the turn and saw his effort go in off the far post after a gallant effort from Callum Christie.
Hutchinson had some stern words for his side at the start of the first period of extra time and Bywater came closest to giving United the lead, but his free-kick skimmed the side netting.
In the 100th minute, it was Common who got there nose in front as a cross from the left was met by the head of Will Spice, who guided his effort in off the far post with Christie left only to watch.
United huffed and puffed, but were unable to find a way to breach the visiting defence as they went out of the competition that they won in 2008/09
