United went down to a narrow defeat to Eastbourne Borough Reserves at priory lane on Saturday. In glorious Sunshine United let an early goal slip when good play from Boro down the left caught resulted in an easy tap in from 5 yards for the Boro striker.

United responded in excellent fashion with a ball played into Evan Archibald feet and his exquisite defence splitting pass was meet by Tony Russell breaking from midfield who slotted the ball pass the advancing keeper into the bottom corner.

United soon found themselves behind when Boro again caught united out and the Boro Striker tapped in once again from 5 yards. United found themselves 3-1 down soon after when a ball over the top of the defence was pounced upon by Boro and put away without any trouble.

United started the second half brightly with Half Time substitute Dan Bateman's cross evading the advancing Evan Archibald. Dan Bateman then went close after excellent work from Nick Barden.

United continued to press and were rewarded when Evan Archibald beat the Boro keeper to Head home a Dan Bateman corner for his first goal of pre-season. The u's buoyed by the goal went in search of the equaliser and were almost rewarded when a long cross field ball from Ben Hughes was chased down by Tony Russell who played it back to Dan Bateman and his cross was headed away for a corner with Evan Archibald waiting to head home.

From the resulting corner Ben Putland out jumped the Boro defence to head Narrowly over.
