Russ Tanner, Dave Smart and Jason Taylor all returned to the starting XI as Simon Rowland made three changes to the side that had comprehensively seen off Crawley Down Gatwick less than 48 hours previously.
The visitors, winless from their opening three league matches, started the brighter and could have lead within the first minute, but Drew Greenall’s weak header was easily gathered by Tanner.
United soon found their rhythm and were ahead on seven minutes when Lucas Mann broke down the left past former United captain Lee Jules, before playing in Bailo Camara who opened his body to place the ball past another former United player, James Firman, in the Hailsham goal for his first strike since joining from Hastings United.
Mann saw two efforts cleared off the line less than two minutes after Camara’s opener, before Camara became provide for Mann who saw a fierce effort saved by the feet of Firman.
Wes Tate made it four goals in two games on 33 minutes with a trademark free kick from 25 yards that saw Firman beaten for a second time.
Smart then tested Firman with a 35 yard effort that the ‘keeper was equal too and pushed away from danger.
Hailsham had a glorious chance to pull a goal back before half time when Joey Pout found a way into the area, but Tanner was equal to his side footed effort.
United quickly punished the visitors by going straight up the other end and getting their third of the match.
A ball over the top skidded off the greasy surface and was brought under control by Mann, who proceeded into the area and curled an effort into the top corner.
Tate looked for number four on 55 minutes after meandering past two defenders, but his effort went wide of the post while Camara came even closer as his effort was tipped onto the bar by Firman.
With just over twenty minutes remaining, Hailsham brought the game back to life as Tanner was alert to save well from Jamie Salvidge, but Tanner was unable to stop Craig Norman from giving the stringers a glimmer of hope.
With the pitch becoming heavy after persistent rain all morning at The Oval, the jet heeled Jonno Melia was introduced to proceedings and stung the palms of Firman before turning provider for Mann who had the ball in the back of the net, but saw his effort ruled out for offside as United held on for a fourth league victory of the season.
