On another day the scoreline could have read double figures as both sides threatened throughout.
A dangerous ball from United was well dealt with in the first minute but it was an early signal of their intentions.
They had to be alert at the other end as Pagham’s Ryan Morrey hit the side netting.
United keeper Adam Sargent was in fine form and Bailo Camara stung James Binfield’s palms at the other end.
There was little Sargent could do after Murfin was brought down in the area and fired home the resulting spot-kick. That was to be the last of the afternoon’s goals.
Tate tried to force the issue once more but to no avail, while Sargent was once again alert to keep them in with a shout as the clock ticked down.
It was not to be, though, as Binfield produced a fine double save right at the death
