Eastbourne United AFC hit Selsey for six, including a hat-trick for Jason Taylor as United picked up a second consecutive league victory
Simon Rowland handed a debut to Joe Summerbell after his midweek signing from Eastbourne, while Brad Manton, a member of the 2008/09 Division One title winning side made his first appearance in nearly five years.
A defensive shortage saw Ashley Jarvis slot in a centre back, while Aaron Capon took up an unfamiliar role at full back.
The makeshift defence was caught napping inside the first minute, but their blushes were spared as Russ Tanner
saved from Dean Platt.
Wes Tate saw an early effort deflected wide after good work from Taylor and from the resulting corner, Jarvis placed an effort just past the outside of the post.
United soon took the lead however after hardwork and perseverance saw Capon win a throw in, which was taken quickly by Taylor into the path of the marauding Capon who burst forward and centred for Lucas Mann to fire into the back of the net.
Much of the firt half saw United inside the Selsey half, but unable to fully breakdown a stubborn visiting defence.
Summerbell saw a diving header go just outside of the post midway through the half and soon saw an enticing cross evade the slide of Mann.
On the stroke of half-time, Jason Taylor struck twice in less than a minute to extend United’s lead. His first came after being played in by Mann before Summerbell took the ball down over his shoulder in mid-air and onto Tate, who squared to Taylor to slot home.
Summerbell got the goal his performace deserved with the second half in its infantcy, as he lifted the ball into the top of the net from 12 yards.
Taylor completed his hat-trick with just over an hour played as he was in the right place at the right time to turn a deflected effort from Summerbell into the net.
Talisman Wes Tate completed United’s scoring with just under 15 minutes remaining after beating the ‘keeper at the near post.
Despite being a relative spectator for long periods, Tanner had to be alert to palm away a long range effort from Selsey captain James Parsons in the final five minutes as United kept only their second home clean sheet of the season.
