United Complete League Double Over Hailsham

Dean Allchin3 Feb 2015 - 23:32

Eastbourne United AFC have picked up their first win in six games after completing the league double over Hailsham Town with a 3-1 victory

The victory marked the 50th win for United in all competitions under the leadership of Simon Rowland.
The United side showed two changes to the XI that began at Newhaven on Saturday, with Ryan McBride and Mike Gardner missing out, to be replaced by Peter Cooper and Peter Featherstone respectively.
United began the game at a high tempo, pressing Hailsham high up the pitch and their approach paid dividends with fiteen minutes played as Cooper broke the deadlock against his former side when his superbly timed run, was met by an equally superb through ball from Matt Geard as Cooper rounded Hailsham 'keeper Tom Betts and fired home.
The goal spurred Hailsham forward, with Jamie Salvidge heading wide whilst unmarked in the area, while minutes later Salvidge was denied a strike at goal by a well timed block from Dan Pollard.
Wes Tate saw an effort flash across goal midway through the half, before former United man Jack Divall thrashed an effort high and wide of the United goal.
With 31 minutes on the clock, United's advantage was doubled as Jason Taylor reacted the quickest to fire home after Dean Stevens had rattled the crossbar with a 25 yard effort.
Cooper was denied his second of the evening on the stroke of half-time as Craig Norman cleared off the line after Cooper had beaten Betts to Taylor's cross.
Hailsham made a double sub at half time, with Betts and Danny Williams withdrawn for Sheldon Levitt and Joey Pout.
Levitt's first action of a chilly night at The Beaconsfield was to deny Taylor from point blank range as the United winger saw his effort tipped onto the bar after intricate build up play with Cooper.
Tate came agonisingly close to reaching an enticing through ball from Geard, but a minute later Tate extended the lead to three with a rare headed goal as he got in front of his marker to guide Taylor's cross into the far corner of Levitt's goal.
Hailsham talisman Danny Leach pulled a goal back with 25 minutes remaining as he ghosted through the middle to slot past Tanner and give The Stringers a glimmer of hope.
Pat Johnson dragged an effort wide when well placed at the far post, while Tanner was out quickly to deny Luke Snashall as Hailsham applied a spell of pressure on the United defence, which remained resolute and ensured that the three points headed back down the A22 to The Oval
