United Win Seven Goal Thriller

United Win Seven Goal Thriller

Dean Allchin10 Oct 2015 - 19:21

Eastbourne United AFC have picked up their first victory under Tobi Hutchinson after a thrilling 4-3 win against Lancing in the SCFL Premier Division

The victory was a marked improvement from the midweek defeat against Lancing as United secured their second league victory of the season over a Lancing side that were sitting second in the league prior to the game.
Hutchinson named Aaron Filsell in the starting XI after returning to the club on Friday, while Dean Stevens returned to the side after missing the midweek fixture due to suspension, while Noir Gordon also returned.
It was a whirlwind first half hour, with Lancing striking first as Lewis Finney struck across Callum Christie following an effort by Alex Fair that had cannoned off the crossbar.
Just three minutes later, United found themselves level as Adam Davidson maraudered upfield to play the ball into the path of Gordon, whose inch perfect cross was met by the head of Liam Baitup who saw his effort carry too much power for Lancing ‘keeper Callum Fidler.
A further three minutes later, Lancing retook the lead as a right sided corner found Josh Spinks unmarked at the far post to put his effort into the back of the net.
The scoring didn’t finish there however as with less than twenty minutes played Dean Stevens drew United level with his first goal of the season from 18 yards.
A brief midfield battle followed for a period before United took the lead for the first time of the afternoon, through a memorable effort by Jamie Bunn.
Zak Dove’s corner was cleared by the visiting defence as far as Bunn, who showed great skill to keep his effort down as he rifled a half volley past Fidler from 30yds.
Mike Ginno was next to find his shooting boots as he saw a 25yd effort whistle past the post, albeit aided via a deflection off a visiting defender.
United thought they had extended their lead on the stroke of half-time when Baitup headed home following an outstanding save by Fidler, but the United striker saw his effort ruled out for a push.
The end of the first half saw United in the ascendency and the second half began in the same way and with ten minutes played, saw their lead extended.
Peter Featherstone’s angled cross fell perfectly to Baitup who saw a rasping drive saved by Fidler, before the ball eventually ended up at the feet of Dove who made no mistake in smashing the ball home for his first goal in a United shirt.
United weren’t to have it all their own way as Fair hit the outside of the post as Lancing looked to claw a goal back and reduce the deficit.
Fidler was once again Lancing’s saviour as he produced a leaping save to thwart United captain Adam Davidson’s goalbound header following a corner.
At the other end Christie had to be alert to push away an effort from Jake Mills, but Lancing pulled a goal back on the stroke of full-time as Ross Adams headed home, but United held firm to secure three points, which was greeted by applause from the United faithful as they left the pitch
