Eastbourne United AFC produced an improved performance but a league victory eluded them for a second consecutive week after letting a 2 goal lead slip to draw 2-2 at Mile Oak.
United enjoyed a first half with total control of the fixture with a number of chances created before the deadlock was broken after a near perfect cross from the impressive Gianluca Del-Gaudio found Drew Greenall with his back to goal, and the tall striker turned to drill the ball home after 27 minutes for his first goal in United colours.
Greenall was again involved soon after as he was tackled at waist height inside the penalty area, but as Greenall did not go straight to the floor after the impact, the referee gave a goal kick as the ball ran out of play, much to the surprise of most people at the Mile Oak Rec with even the Mile Oak bench stating they didn't know how the decision was not given.
But United weren’t to rest on their laurels and continued to push forward and were rewarded with a second goal on 43 minutes as Shaun Lee connected with a Mark Goodwin corner to head home.
The second half started in the same vein as the first with United playing all the right stuff and the returning Nick Barden, on for Jamie Bunn, was taken down in the box to win United a penalty and the chance to extend the lead. The usually sniper accurate Pete Cooper stepped up and uncharacteristically sent the ball over the bar.
With less than 15 minutes remaining, Pete Featherstone was adjudged to have been holding a Mile Oak player in the penalty area and conceded a penalty that was duly converted by Chris Paine to reduce the deficit to a single goal.
A nervous last few minutes ensued and 3 minutes from time a cross into the box found Rickie Mitchell as he headed the ball back in the direction it came from and out of the reach of an out-stretched Adam Sargent into the back of the net.
