United Leave Littlehampton Empty-Handed

Dean Allchin4 Mar 2013 - 13:13

Despite a very good performance, Eastbourne United AFC were left disappointed not to come away with at least a point from second placed Littlehampton Town after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat.

United opened well but Littlehampton carved a way through the centre of United’s defence In their first attack and Danny Hand was brought down by keeper Lee Daubeney, who was very lucky to only receive a yellow card. Brother Mitchell Hand dispatched the resultant spot kick low to Daubeney's left, but United then went on to totally dominate possession in the first half.
However the extra man in midfield left United a little short in the final third and a number of teasing crosses went wasted by a lack of attackers.
For a defence that has only conceded 13 league goals Littlehampton looked very unsure, Catt had the best chance when he found himself in the clear but Hendricks was quickly off his line to smother the shot.
Adam Davidson hit the bar just before half time and a Barden cross was cleared off the line but too many shooting opportunities failed to trouble the keeper.

Littlehampton came out stronger in the second half and play was end to end but with neither keeper really having to make a save.
Barden and Bunn both fired good chances high whilst Garman and Gaskin both wasted good chances at the other end.
The killer second goal came on 81 minutes when Garman's run from midfield beat the off side and Daubeney to the through ball to leave him with an unguarded net.
The battle for the third promotion place is now tight but with performances like this and with chances being created, United will feel confident of sealing promotion to Division One.

United: Daubeney; Simmonds, Del-Gaudio (Harrison 46), Sherriff, Featherstone ©, Stracey, Bunn, Davidson (Baitup 65), Cooper, Catt, Barden (Goodwin 60)
